May 2011 Southwestern France, Trip Details and Registration

The price of the tour includes the following:

  • 11 nights in three star hotels
  • All breakfasts, 3 lunches, 1 dinner
  • All ground transportation connected with the described itinerary
  • Admissions to museums, castles, caves and gardens on itinerary
  • Admission to Quilt-en-Sud quilt exhibition
  • Guide and driver gratuities
  • Extensive pre-trip preparation

Not included in the cost of the tour are:

  • Air fare & transfer from Paris hotel to Paris airport
  • Beverages for included meals
  • Optional activities, entries & transportation
  • Travel and cancellation insurance
  • Personal expenses

Cost of the tour, per person, in a twin room is $3650.

A minimum of 12 participants is needed to proceed with the tour at this price. Your deposit will be fully refunded if we do not meet our minimum. In early December, I must notify the hotels that we have a minimum of 12 tour registrants. Please contact Jeanne if you contemplate registering for the tour. The maximum number of participants is 16.

Four single rooms are available. Contact Jeanne for details. Approximate cost of single supplement is $850.

3-Day Extension in Paris - May 21-24, 2011. The tour ends in Paris, so you will be close to Charles de Gaulle airport for your flight home. If you, like me, would like to spend a few days in Paris before returning home, we've booked hotel rooms in Paris for another 3 nights. The days will not be planned or organized, but left for you to visit a museum or exhibit, browse and shop, take photos, and in general, imbibe the Parisian ambience. The price of the extension includes 3 nights and 3 breakfasts in our Paris hotel.

Cost of the 3-day extension, per person, in a twin room is $500.

Approximate cost of single supplement for 3-day extension is $185.

Cancellation and Refund Policy


Notice of cancellation must be in writing.

  • The deposit of $300 is non-refundable.
  • If you contact us by February 1, 2011, we will refund 100% of your tour payments less non-refundable deposit.
  • If you contact us by February 28, 2011, we will refund 50% of your tour payments less non-refundable deposit.
  • Between March 1, 2011 and May 9, 2011, the date we fly to France, there is no refund.

Trip cancellation insurance and health insurance is strongly advised, so that you will be protected if you find it necessary to cancel the tour or return home early. We will mail you an insurance brochure so you can be informed.

We cannot be responsible for changes in the itinerary that result from actions taken by our suppliers. In good faith we will make the best alternative plans possible.

Tour details are subject to change based on size of group.

Please note: The cost of the tour is subject to a small increase should the dollar become weaker resulting in an increase in land costs.

 

We have planned the itinerary to include historic, artistic and cultural activities of interest to all travelers.

It is essential that the group gathers at the airport in Bordeaux at an as yet-to-be-determined time, so together we can travel the 135 miles to our hotel in Sarlat. Travel between Sarlat in the Dordogne and Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the Basque region will be by private coach, as will our day excursions. In towns and villages we will be on foot. Transportation from Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Paris, where the tour finishes, will be by train.

Please note: You will be lifting and carrying your own suitcase and hand luggage during the tour, especially on and off the train. Luggage (one checked bag and one carry-on bag) and "packing light" will be discussed in our newsletters. Participants need to be in good physical condition to fully enjoy this moderately strenuous tour. There will be steps and cobblestone streets to navigate. Please check with your doctor if you have specific health concerns, and contact me if you would like further information regarding the pace of the excursion. The rooms in our Paris hotel are all non-smoking.


Starting in December I will send out monthly newsletters to all participants, filled with descriptions of the cities, towns and villages, as well as museums, monuments and places of interest on our itinerary. Included will be suggestions for packing and pre-trip reading. Before the tour begins the group will be invited to meet in Pacific Grove for an introduction to each other, and an overview of the tour's destinations and activities. This is a chance to have your questions answered and to share your ideas and specific interests. I am always available to chat by phone or email. I encourage you to contact me with your questions.


The size of the group will not exceed 16 participants. We welcome those who want to come with a friend or family member and, if possible, I will match up singles (non-smoking only) wanting a roommate. In addition to planned activities, there will be time to browse in the shops, discover a treasure, find the right moment for a photo, make a sketch, and spend time with other quiltmakers on the tour. And again we remind you that this excursion involves daily walking and stair climbing. Except for lunch and tea breaks, it is not unusual to be on your feet most of the day.
